Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation

Who We Are

The Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation (KSR) at the University of Alberta continues to be recognized for excellence in teaching and research, currently ranked top 3 in Canada and among the top 10 globally for sports-related subjects in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

With more than 60 years of inspiring movement, the Faculty leads research and teaching through a diverse and multidisciplinary lens. The range of topics explored spans sport, exercise, health, recreation, tourism, and adapted physical activity. Faculty researchers and instructors explore these areas from biological, neurological, psychological, and sociocultural perspectives. From investigating how physical activity affects cells, neurons, and physiological systems, to examining coaching practices, leisure behaviour, and the sociopolitical forces shaping sport and recreation, our research and teaching drives innovation and supports healthier, more active and inclusive communities in Alberta and beyond.
